Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Ranking Sephora’s Bestselling Base Products

It has recently come to my attention that a lot of people shop for their beauty products based on the ‘bestselling’ filter on websites. This is not a new concept by any means, but I had never really thought about it.

I rarely ever base my purchases on what is or isn’t a bestseller but I can see why a regular, non-beauty obsessed human would use that as their guide. The word bestseller implies that the products at the top of the page are the best of the best a store has to offer. But is that really true?

To test this theory, I’m going through Sephora’s bestselling products and ranking them to see if they truly deserve their bestseller title. I’m starting with base products, but stay tuned because I’ll be doing cheek, eye, and lip products soon!

Ok, I think you get what I’m doing, so let’s get to ranking some bestsellers!

The Products

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer

5/5 | Best suited for: Dry to combo skin

I’ve raved about this primer many times before, so you already know it’s amazing. The formula is this unique sticky gel texture that really adheres to your skin and makes anything you put on top of it last for ages. Not only is this an effective primer, but it also has great skincare ingredients that hydrate and nourish your skin instead of just prepping it for makeup.

This product deserves to be a bestseller.

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Pore Minimizing Primer

2/5 | Best Suited for: combo to oily skin

This has been such a popular primer for years and I don’t know why. It’s a pore-filling primer which means it has that silicone formula that pills on your face if you’re not careful. Not my favorite thing, tbh. This is effective at filling in your pores but it doesn’t prolong the wear of your makeup and it doesn’t control your oils so, in my opinion it’s not worth it.

This product does not deserve to be a bestseller.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation

5/5 | Best suited for: all skin types

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation

This is one of the most universal foundation formulas in the market. The coverage is buildable so you can really customize this to fit your look. I personally use this in my MUA kit because it works on all my clients and it looks amazing in pictures and videos. The shade range on this product is also extensive so everyone can find a shade and undertone that works for them!

This product deserves to be a bestseller.

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

4/5 | Best suited for: dry to normal skin

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

This is another product that has been very popular for a long time and it has a good reason to be. This CC cream is very unique because it feels lightweight on the skin but the coverage resembles that of a medium coverage foundation. The formula makes the skin look healthy and radiant, so if you have oilier skin, beware. This is better suited for people with drier skin because it gets very dewy as the day goes by. The only thing I don’t like about this is the awful shade range. There are only like 6 shades that aren’t universal so not everyone can enjoy this.

This product kinda deserves to be a bestseller.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

3.5/5 | Best suited for: dry to combo skin

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is another cult classic in the beauty world and beyond. But it’s a bit of an overrated concealer if you ask me. The formula is hydrating and it has decent coverage and the shade range is pretty good now that they extended it. But it’s not a special formula by any means. There are a lot of comparable concealers at the drugstore for a third of the price so personally, I don’t see the hype. But to each their own!

This product kinda deserves to be a bestseller.

Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Concealer

5/5 | Best suited for: normal to oily skin

This is another personal favorite so I might be a bit biased. But this is a great concealer if you’re looking for high coverage. Think of this as a more comfortable version of the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. The formula is a drier satin-matte formula with medium to buildable coverage and it doesn’t look or feel heavy under the eyes. If you’re looking for the perfect concealer for glam looks, look no further than Too Faced Born This Way Concealer.

This product deserves to be a bestseller.

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer

4/5 | Best suited for: normal to oily skin

This is the matte counterpart to the Radiant Creamy Concealer and, I must say, the formula is much more unique and harder to replicate. This is a matte concealer so it’s best suited for my oilier guys and gals. But despite being matte and pretty full coverage, this is a very lightweight concealer that builds up well and is quite long-lasting. The shade range is pretty extensive but I must say, some of the undertones are a bit questionable so that would be my only critique for this product.

This product kinda deserves to be a bestseller.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

4/5 | Best suited for: normal to oily skin

We have all tried the Laura Mercier Loose Powder at least once in our lives and I think we can all say it’s a great powder. It sets the face well without making it look dry or heavy and it doesn’t have any flashback. It comes in 3 shades that are meant to work on many different skin tones and, while I think it’s a great step up from having just one shade, there should be more shades so that all skin tones can enjoy this product. This is a good setting powder and despite its steep price point, it’s worth it.

This product kinda deserves to be a bestseller.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder

5/5 | Best suited for: dry to normal skin

Speaking of expensive powders, this Charlotte Tilbury powder deserves all the rave it gets online. Despite being an expensive powder, this is worth every penny. The formula is so lightweight it becomes undetectable once you apply it to your face and it just blurs out the skin like magic. It doesn’t control oil very well though so that’s why it’s better suited for drier skin. But I have combo skin and I still love this powder! I need to reapply it a lot but I really like how it makes my skin look so it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

This product deserves to be a bestseller.

Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

6/5 | Best suited for: all skin types

We all know this is a bestseller for a reason. It’s a classic product and one of the only setting sprays that actually makes your makeup last longer throughout the day. This works for all skin types because it isn’t drying or sticky on the skin. It just goes on like a thin veil of product that protects everything underneath it and it is 100% worth the price!

This product deserves to be a bestseller forever and ever.

Conclusion

Overall, we can conclude that most bestselling base products at Sephora deserve their title. A lot of these are favorites in my personal collection and, sure, there are a few products that are a bit overrated but the people love them. That’s why they’re bestsellers!

Of course, the way you view this list depends on your skin type and preference so take this with a grain of salt. I came at it from the perspective of a Makeup Artist and long-time beauty lover who has tried many products throughout the years. That doesn’t mean I’m always right!

Remember to stay tuned because I’ll be ranking the rest of Sephora’s bestsellers by category in upcoming blog posts. Let me know which category you want to see next in the comments below.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope this was helpful and you had as much fun as I did!

Love always,

Isa ❤
